The objective of this project was to create a typographic system that functions as a poster for an event honoring an assigned person. The poster is meant to demonstrate the accomplishments and significance of the person while effectively communicating the details of the event.
Research
My assigned person was Peanut Jim Shelton, a Cincinnati Icon known for his friendly personality, his peanut cart, and his silk tuxedo and top hat that he wore daily. He was a fixture at Reds games and opening day parades, only missing one parade in 50 years. For my poster, I wanted to communicate class, charisma, and Peanut Jim's love for the Cincinnati Reds.
Experimentation
Using key words that would be included in my poster, I experimented with different textures, fonts, and compositions.
Final Iterations
I got the idea to make the focal point of my poster a ticket to relate to buying a ticket for a Red's Game. The ticket also acts as an indicator that this poster is for an event, and keeps the poster feeling vintage and classic. I tried out different type faces and compositions, and went with the one that felt the most cohesive and visually appealing.
